A few days ago a Reuters report claimed the new iPhone will have a much bigger 4.6-inch display and we have already seen the first mockups that show how such a device could look like (see image above). Yesterday we saw iOS 5.1 code strings that proved the sixth-generation iPhone will come with 4G LTE support and now iMore?backs up that report, while providing more details about the next-gen smartphone.
In addition to the 3.5-inch display ? which could get a little bigger, but ?nowhere near as big as current 4.5-inch-plus Android phones? ? and LTE connectivity, the new iPhone will also sport a smaller 30-pin dock, a micro-dock if you will.
The blog also suggests that the new iPhone is going to be released a year after the iPhone 4S, which makes perfect sense, as Apple would surely experience another impressive Christmas quarter:
Second is the timeframe. We?ve mentioned October 2012 as the current release schedule for iPhone 5,1 before and it sounds like that?s still the plan. The exact date almost certainly won?t be determined until it gets closer to launch, but the iPhone sounds locked to a fall cycle for the immediate future.
We?ll certainly hear more iPhone 5/6 rumors in the future, especially once we get closer to WWDC 2012, where Apple is expected to provide more details about its future iOS and OS X operating systems. Once Apple announces iOS 6, probably at the Worldwide Developer Conference, we?ll get a better idea of what the new iPhone will have to offer, and more importantly, when it will be launched. It certainly makes sense to assume that the new iPhone will come with a brand new major iOS build on board, just like its predecessors did, therefore a fall release for the new iOS smartphones makes a lot of sense considering how Apple handled the 2011 new iOS release and iPhone launch.
